Water technology fund bought a stake in Inwatech Kft

The Water Impact Fund, managed by Susterra Capital Partners Kockázati Tőkealap-kezelő Zrt., bought a minority share in Inwatech Környezetvédelmi Kft., which is considered a dominant player in the Hungarian wastewater and biogas market.

The Water Impact Fund managed by Susterra Capital Partners Kockázati Tőkealap-kezelő Zrt. acquired a minority 48 percent stake in Inwatech Környezetvédelmi Kft., a leading company in the field of wastewater treatment: the transaction was also registered by the company court - announced the parties involved.

Inwatech Kft., founded in 2001 by professionals active in the field of environmental technology and private individuals committed to the field, is one of the key players in the Hungarian wastewater and biogas market, with countless reference works behind it. In 2020, the company, which employs approximately 40 people - the vast majority of them engineers - achieved sales revenue of HUF 3.2 billion with an operating profit of HUF 274 million. In addition to the cleaning of municipal or mixed wastewater, the company also carries out significant activities in the field of cleaning industrial wastewater from the food industry, pharmaceutical industry, chemical industry, and machine industry. In recent decades, the specialists of Inwatech Kft. have played a key role in the planning and implementation of dozens of wastewater treatment and biogas plants in Hungary and abroad.

Susterra Capital Partners launched the Water Impact Fund in 2020 - as the first European water technology fund: the private equity fund primarily invests in innovative companies with significant growth potential and value-creating ability, which contribute to solving global water problems such as access to clean drinking water and sewage networks, as well as more efficient industrial water use. The aim of the fund is to have a measurable and sustainable positive environmental impact through its portfolio companies in addition to financial return.

"Based on the technical, financial and legal due diligence carried out in recent months, as well as our negotiations with the company's two former co-owners, we consider Inwatech Kft. to be such a company, which is why we acquired a 48 percent stake in it," said Bence Tóth in connection with the transaction. Chairman of the Board of Susterra Capital Partners. He added that, as venture capital investors, they see their newly acquired stake as a long-term investment. Balázs Korintus, a member of the management board of the fund management company, said: the continuity of Inwatech Kft is ensured by the founding co-owner Zsolt Eszes, the branch managers Sándor Stock and László Mészáros, who also became minority co-owners in the company at the same time as the transaction.

Zsolt Eszes, managing director of Inwatech Kft., said in connection with the transaction that the acquisition of Water Impact Fund will allow the company to further strengthen its positions in the Hungarian and international municipal wastewater treatment, biogas production and utilization markets, while contributing new, innovative products and technologies for localisation.
